Spy Post Reflection Visit

Spy is a post production company located in San Francisco, California. Before the career exploration visit, I thought that I was going to be bored listening to people talk about their jobs. But now I think this company is awesome and I loved interacting with the employees there. I was very satisfied about my visit. For example, we were able to talk to Darran, who is a Creative Director, Flame Operator and one of the Co-Finders of Spy. I was able to ask a few questions about his job and he loves it because he’s able to be creative and he loves interacting with people.

Overall, I learned that there are so many multimedia jobs, and its still growing. There are about 20 different jobs in just computer graphics and it made me consider being in the multimedia business. I also learned that the easiest way to become successful is if you have transferable skills and you have a good attitude about everything. For example, being able to solve problems and make decisions, listen carefully, give and receive feedback and even more are very essential to getting jobs in life. The last thing I learned is to always be positive and have the most experience you can have about anything.

Who We Are

Photo Essay : Who We Are

In this photo essay, we designed in a square spreads. It was different designing in a different shape, but I felt it gave me more creativity. In this essay, we learned about bleeds. Which is when you have to expand your picture, so the picture could go to the end of the page. My photo essay expresses how we find ourselves as we grow up.

Legacy of Imperialism

LEGACY OF IMPERIALISM! Wow, finally finished! This project was such an interesting project to do. Everything we learned was all tied up into this. Creating a whole plan and design of a 3rd world country in Adobe InDesign and placing pictures on each page! Then, the presentation. I feel like my GROUP did an awesome job, but I completely messed up! I completely froze in the middle of my part! But, thank God for LUCIA! She saved me. Overall, we got funded in the top 6! yay, Angola! It was a pretty cool experience, I need to get comfortable talking in front of strangers!

Career Exploration Reflection – KTVU

Before the career exploration visit, I thought there would be more people around the station and more stress in the environment but I was wrong. KTVU is very calm, there wasn’t anything crazy going on at the studio. I also thought there would be more people to be able to run a news broadcast. Though, only about 5-10 people where in the process. KTVU was friendly, too, the people that gave us a tour also answered our questions before we could even ask them.

One of my predictions that turned out to be true was that we were able to see the studio. I watch KTVU in the morning, and it was exciting to see what I watch on television. Though, I wouldn’t want to work at this place because it isn’t in my interest. I’d like to work in the dental field as an orthodontist. I thought the graphic designers job could’ve been the best job because he gets to work with cool programs. Another thing that was interesting was how there was no need for a floor director, everything was “high-tech” now.

A prediction that turned out to be false was being able to meet more of the talent, that’s what I was excited about. Instead, we met the people in the background, the ones that really run the show. Though, it was important that we got to meet the designers and everyone in the control room. That’s where the real talent was. I also like the robotic cameras in the studio, they were controlled from a whole different place. Overall, I’m glad we got a chance to go to a place where there were different types of careers involving multimedia. It was a great experience.

College Reflection -Berkeley

When we visited the college I pictured a lot of students to be there. I did not expect to see so many out. There were booths where students seemed so engaged in the whole environment. College looked like a place where anything could happen. I also thought college would be somewhat similar to high school, but it was the absolute opposite and much more than I expected. It was open to anyone that was interested in being there.

I didn’t expect for the admissions for college to be so complicated or for do few applicants to be accepted. I didn’t know so many people struggle just to get into college. Students who do make it in, on the other hand, tend to stay in dormitories for their freshman year. I thought dorms wouldn’t be that great, until I heard some perspectives from Berkeley students. Also, the classes varied from 800 – 30 students and lasted a few hours, which made me think about the loads of homework. Another interesting thing about the Berkeley campus was the history behind it, like how a building came from England.

Overall, I would say I didn’t expect college to be everything I expected it to be. “College is a ticket to a better future,” as my mom would say. I would never know where that ticket would take me. Just like going to college, if I didn’t know what I’d want to do, I could head to college and it could take me somewhere I would’ve never known.

First Semester in the Digital Safari

In the beginning of this semester, I wasn’t sure about being in the Digital Safari at first because I heard it was hard. In the first week of school, I wasn’t really interested in what we were doing and I thought there wouldn’t be any point to doing these kind of things. Though, it got better. I was able to understand that multimedia comes in handy for so many things and events that would come up in the future. Therefore, I was absolutely wrong.

In multimedia, I was able to learn about Photoshop and photography. Being able to learn about this is like being able to create illusions! I thought photoshop was my favorite thing to work on, and the easiest thing to do in class. We also learned how to make movies, like the History of our Families project, using a program called Final Cut. Another thing we did was photography, and we got to explore around school and take pictures. The last thing we’re learning about is Bryce, which is a 3D model program and probably the program I struggle with the most. Overall, First Semester was full of learning new things and stepping out of my comfort zone. Being in the DSA is fun!

History of our Families

Making my video of my Grandma was something my family and I was very proud of. Being able to make this project had a lot of steps. I had to find old pictures, which were poorly ruined, and had to fix them up with Photoshop. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. I liked being able to put everything together when I was finished and finally seeing the end of the project. In the end, I decided to name my project ” The Heart of My Family ” because my grandma inspired my family to be where they are now.

Picture Portfolio .

Dezsiree’s Flickr

In this process, we took pictures for a couple of days and fixed them the best we could using Photoshop. In Photoshop, we used filters, curves and many other tools. Overall the pictures, I mostly favorite the one of Marilyn above. I particularly made that picture very dark in color using an all black photo filter. Randy inspired me with that idea and I like to use it a lot. Playing around with Photoshop like this is fun!
